A Graphene Sensor for Defect Detection and Predictive Maintenance in Composite Materials – “GRAPHOSITE”
“Defects can inadvertently be produced in composite materials either during the manufacturing process or during the normal service life of the component.
Some non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic testing and strain gauging exist for defect detection in composites. However, these have limitations (including cost) that have prevented them being used extensively. Notwithstanding, the Department for Business Innovation & Skills (BIS) UK Composites Strategy, insists that the UK needs to focus on advancing composites reliability and increase market share of existing sectors and ensure the use of composites in new sectors”
This project therefore seeks to develop GRAPHOSITE (A Graphene Sensor for Defect Detection and Predictive Maintenance in Composite Materials for use as a highly efficient, more convenient composite monitoring tool). Our technology will be based on an enhanced graphene-substrate interaction, with the ability to embed within a composite structure. The successful exploitation of the technology will result in cumulative revenue of £103m after 6 years in the market.

GRAPHOSITE Project meeting (Q7) – 19 May 2020
The GRAPHOSITE project consortium met on the 19th May 2020, for the reviewing of the 7th quarter of the project. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this meeting was held online. This was an opportunity for all Project Partners to discuss the progress of the project and share an overview of each work package achieved results, to the Project Officer.
GRAPHOSITE Open Day Workshop 2020 – SAVE THE DATE!
The GRAPHOSITE Project Partners are pleased to announce their 2nd Open Day Workshop, which is taking place in Cambridge on the 17 November 2020. The GRAPHOSITE Open Day Workshop and Exhibition will be a great opportunity to learn about the GRAPHOSITE project results, meet their partners and learn about their products and services.
Participation is free, but registration is required. If you are interested in attending, please send an email to: info@graphosite.co.uk
GRAPHOSITE Project Meeting at HAYDALE – 19 February 2020
The GRAPHOSITE partner, HAYDALE Composites Solutions Ltd hosted the project review meeting (Q6) on the 19th February, at their facilities in Loughborough. This was an opportunity for the GRAPHOSITE partners not only to discuss their work and shared an overview of each WP achieved results, but also to visit HAYDALE facilities and learn more about the work they are doing.
